Countrywide® was founded on the belief that homeownership should be a goal that's attainable by everyone. In 1992, Countrywide launched the House America® Initiatives, to address the need for affordable products and services. The House America Initiatives include programs that provide educational outreach to low- and moderate-income and minority communities, access to down payment assistance programs, House America branches located in historically underserved communities, as well as no-cost telephone counseling for prospective home buyers through Countrywide’s House America Counseling Center. Today, we've defined aggressive goals to help more underserved Americans purchase homes.
Our dedication is fueled by three basic principles:
- Lowering the barriers to homeownership
- Increasing education about homeownership
- Driving down the cost of homeownership
As part of our House America initiatives Countrywide has established an affordable lending goal. In January 2005, Countrywide announced it’s new affordable lending goal to fund $1 trillion in home loans to minorities and lower-income borrowers and communities through 2010. This goal, entitled the One Trillion Dollar We House America Challenge, embodies Countrywide’s long-standing commitment to lead the mortgage industry in closing the homeownership gap. Countrywide’s affordable lending efforts have already placed 2.4 million families into homes, and we expect to nearly triple that number by 2010. Accomplishments like these – and more – make Countrywide an outstanding career choice. We encourage you to consider submitting your resume to Countrywide Home Loans– our retail division – if you are interested in promoting these important initiatives.
